Hey everyone, it's Yiyi here. During the summer of 2017, I was incredibly fortunate to study the art of Shui nationality filigree with Chen Zhenan, a master of Guizhou Shui nationality silver ornaments and a protector of our intangible cultural heritage. This experience wasn't just about learning a skill—it was a deep dive into the heart of tradition, understanding the significance of each piece we created.
From the culturally rich big hairpin to the symbolic dragon bracelet and silver lock, these pieces are more than just ornaments. They carry the essence of Shui nationality, symbolizing auspiciousness and beauty with motifs like the Phoenix, fish, and butterfly. Each symbol, meticulously crafted, represents a story, a tradition, and a celebration of identity.
Here, I'll share with you the journey of crafting these pieces, the ancient techniques passed down through generations, and the profound cultural significance they hold.
