In my collection, there are pieces featuring stones from the lake beaches here in Ontario that are left untouched and unpolished. The natural matte finish of these stones, shaped by the elements and polished by water over time, highlights their raw beauty and authenticity. These pebbles, with their earthy colors like terracotta red, warm ochre, and soft taupe, offer a unique aesthetic, revealing beautiful, subtle gradients within them. These stones have a history stretching back through the ages. Perhaps our ancestors once held these stones, felt their weight, and appreciated their beauty. Unlike stones that are cut and polished in a lapidary, which are reborn through that process and relatively young, these natural stones tell ancient stories. In creating jewelry from these untouched stones, I feel a deep connection to the past, honoring the timeless stories they carry.
While walking on the beach, I came across countless pebbles of different sizes. These two pebbles just naturally caught my eye. Their even, gentle brown color and perfect medium size seemed ideal for jewelry. What really struck me was their smooth, flat backs, which felt almost like they were crafted by nature itself for this purpose. They weren’t anything rare or precious, just ordinary stones that stood out to me in a special way.
It felt like a seamless and poetic process—picking them up, bringing them home, and transforming them into unique pieces of jewelry. It’s a reminder of how simple, everyday things can be turned into something beautiful.
I invite you to explore these unique pieces and appreciate the stories that these natural stones have to tell.
